Iran’s Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan confirmed on Wednesday that the country performed a ballistic missile test recently, but denied that it breached United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2231, Tasnim News Agency reported.
“The recent (missile) test was in line with our programs, and we will not allow any outsider to interfere in our defense affairs,” the minister claimed.
Earlier this week, US media reported that the country had carried out a missile test and thus breached the UNSC resolution from July 2015. Iran's action was criticized by United States officials who branded it "provocative" and "irresponsible."
Prior to the adoption of the resolution, Tehran had agreed with US and other world powers to downsize its nuclear program in exchange for the countries lifting sanctions against Iran. The UNSC document calls on the country “not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”
In December, the US extended sanctions against Iran for another 10 years.
