Amir Saied Iravani, Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, condemned accusations that Tehran illegally supplied Russia with drones to be used in its military operation in Ukraine, TASS news agency reported. The envoy reportedly reminded the UN that under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Iran is not barred from supplying other nations with weapons.
Talking about what he described as "baseless accusations that Iran transferred UAVs to Russia, allegedly in violation of resolution 2231," Iravani said that the resolution is no longer in effect and that the transfer would not be a violation of the agreement. "Any claims to the contrary are unfounded and are rejected by us," he concluded.
Tehran in 2020 took a step back in its commitment to the nuclear deal, following the US attack against Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
