Iran reportedly likely to attack Israel with proxy forces

Any Iranian attack on Israel would most likely be carried out by Iran's proxy forces as opposed to the country launching a direct assault, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing two people familiar with United States intelligence on the subject.

US intelligence assessed that Iran urged its proxy forces to launch a simultaneous attack against Israel using drones and missiles in response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, the sources said, adding that the assault could occur as early as this week. The US does not expect an attack on its assets, however, Iran does not have "perfect control" over all of its proxy forces, which might lead to some of them engaging US troops on their own.

"They have put the pieces in place to conduct the attack now. Just waiting for the right time," one of the sources was quoted as having said.
