Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed on Tuesday that Tehran would only engage in indirect negotiations with the United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff during the upcoming nuclear talks in Oman, rejecting any alternative formats.
"We chose indirect negotiations to avoid threats and pressure from Washington," Araghchi said, according to the official news agency IRNA, emphasizing that the structure of the talks must protect Iranian interests and dignity. The minister stressed that a "real agreement" is possible if the other side is "serious."
He reiterated that Iran's core objective remains unchanged: lifting international sanctions and alleviating economic hardship for the Iranian people. US President Donald Trump announced the negotiations as direct talks during a White House meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
