United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to resign from his post later in the day, Sky News reported on Thursday, citing an unnamed source.
Some of Johnson's closest allies are now acknowledging that the time has come for him to leave the government and are trying to "persuade him to resign," according to the report. Johnson could reportedly remain as the interim prime minister until October when the Conservative Party conference to elect a new leader will take place.
Following the release of the report, a government spokesperson confirmed that "the prime minister will make a statement to the country today."
