United States Representative from California Ro Khanna (pictured) was the only Democrat to contact Twitter Inc. in October 2020 about its ban on a controversial story about then-presidential candidate Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden, journalist Matt Taibbi reported on his social media account.
Notably, Khanna was concerned that the censorship could be a violation of the First Amendment constitutional principles that protect the freedom of speech. The lawmaker said in an email sent to a senior company official that "in the heat of a Presidential campaign, restricting dissemination of newspaper articles... seems like it will invite more backlash than it will do good."
Although the laptop that served as the main source for the New York Post story was initially dismissed as "fake" and part of a "Russian disinformation campaign," the computer's authenticity was recently verified by even the media outlets that were never affiliated with the US Republicans.
