Syrian President Bashar al-Assad (pictured) reiterated the country's support for Moscow's military operation in Donbass during the meeting with Russia's special envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, on Thursday.

According to the statement by the presidential office, Assad described the current political battle as "the most intense" in the world, underlining that the escalation of these conflicts calls for greater consistency and clarity in political positions. Russia's representative hailed Syria for its support "despite significant pressures from the United States and its allies," which have failed to isolate Moscow and Damascus, according to the envoy.

Since the beginning of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, Assad expressed support to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) a "global threat." In December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed a trilateral meeting with his Syrian and Russian counterparts.
