North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un vowed the country will counter nuclear threats by "enemies" resolutely, stressing that the government will react "to nukes with nuclear weapons and to total confrontation with all-out confrontation," Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) cited Kim saying during the on-site inspection of yesterday's test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The supreme leader, as quoted by the state media, underscored that yesterday's missile launch reaffirmed his government's acquisition of "a powerful and reliable capability to counter any nuclear threats," demonstrating its "strongest will to retaliate the hysteric aggression war drills by the enemies."
The missile, launched from the Pyongyang International Airport, flew 999.2 kilometers and landed in the international waters of the East Sea, according to KCNA. Previously, Washington pledged to "take all necessary measures" to ensure the security of South Korea and Japan following recent missile launches from North Korea.
