French politician and former presidential candidate Marine Le Pen (pictured) called on newly-appointed Prime Minister Francois Bayrou to "listen" to the demands of opposition parties and work toward crafting a "reasonable" budget on Friday.
"Any other policy that would only be an extension of Macronism, twice rejected at the ballot box, could only lead to impasse and failure," Le Pen said in the statement.
Bayrou will become France's fourth prime minister this year, following a turbulent political period. The year began with Elisabeth Borne's resignation, leading to Education Minister Gabriel Attal assuming the role from January to September after snap elections in which the pan-left New Popular Front secured the most parliamentary seats. Former Brexit chief negotiator Michel Barnier succeeded Attal but was ousted earlier this month amid growing dispute around the next year's budget.
