French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday met with his Israeli counterpart in Paris ahead of the Olympic Games opening ceremony and took the opportunity to call for an "immediate ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip, the Elysee Palace said in a statement.
"Given the unbearable human cost among the civilian population of Gaza and the intolerable humanitarian situation, the President will call for the conclusion without further delay of an immediate and durable ceasefire that will allow the release of all hostages held by Hamas, including that of our two compatriots, as well as the massive delivery of medical and humanitarian aid," the French Presidency noted.
Previously, the French rail network was attacked by vandals, while Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused "Iran's axis of evil" of carrying out the attacks.
