May voices 'great regret' over Darroch resignation

Outgoing United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May expressed "great regret" that the country's Ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch decided to quit after leaked cables revealed he insulted US President Donald Trump.

"It is a matter of great regret that he has found it necessary to leave his position," May said in a statement ahead of the PMQs in the House of Commons. She added that Darroch "rightly" received "full support" from the whole UK cabinet as public servants should be "able to give full and frank advice."

Earlier, Darroch announced his resignation, claiming the current situation made it "impossible" for him to continue with his duties. His decision came after Trump called the UK diplomat a "pompous fool" and claimed he would "no longer deal" with him after leaks showed Darroch called the US president "insecure" and "incompetent."
