Former United States Secretary of the Treasury and investment banker Steven Mnuchin stated on Tuesday that one idea for TikTok would be to transfer all its technology, ensuring it no longer engages with ByteDance in the future.

Talking to CNBC, Mnuchin expressed his doubts about China's previous willingness to negotiate but hinted at the interest of the group of investors surrounding him to invest in the platform. The banker explained that last year's bid was put on hold, but it may be pursued now that US President Donald Trump entered office.

Chinese social media giant went through a whirlwind during the weekend which saw its services disabled, then restored on greenlight from Trump who also signed an executive order giving TikTok a grace period of 75 days after he entered the office.
