A secret NATO monitoring group arrived in Odessa on Tuesday, that will observe Russian ships in the Black Sea, RIA Novosti reported citing Russian law enforcement agencies.

The goal of the group is "to prevent the landing of Russian troops in the Odessa region" and "to issue target designation of the location of Russian warships," the report claimed. The action comes after Ukraine earlier asked NATO to send ships to the Black Sea, particularly around the Odessa port.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russian troops intentionally leave mines across the country "to ensure that the return to these areas after de-occupation is as dangerous as possible."
