Brazil's Federal Police carried out an operation in which it searched the residency of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's son, Carlos Bolsonaro (pictured left), G1 reported on Monday citing sources.

According to G1, the police also obtained a search warrant for the Rio de Janeiro City Council's premises, where Carlos has been serving as a councilor since 2001. Further targets of the investigation were also Carlos' advisors.

The probe aims to uncover whether the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN) was illegally monitoring the country's citizens under Bolsonaro's reign.
