Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, said on Thursday that the United States and its allies are attempting to incite separatist movements in the North Caucasus region.

"The US and its allies continue to interfere in our internal affairs in order to weaken us from within, destabilize the situation, step up efforts to inspire protest and separatist processes in the North Caucasus," Patrushev said at the meeting on national security issues in the North Caucasian Federal District.

In addition, Patrushev claimed that opposition activists, with the support of foreign non-profit organizations and the media, have provoked an increase in the number of protests in the Russian territory.
