Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov (pictured) refuted Washington's claims that Moscow doesn't combat cybercrime, deeming the accusations "false and irresponsible."

"Russia has always emphasized that it is only possible to defeat digital crime together," the envoy stressed, noting that Moscow thwarted roughly 50,000 attacks in 2022, most of which were conducted from within the United States.

His comments come after the US Treasury Department on Thursday announced sanctions against members of a Russia-based cybercrime gang Trickbot. In the statement, it described Russia as a "haven" where cybercriminals can "freely perpetrate malicious cyber activities."
