The Solomyansky District Court in Kiev sentenced on Monday Russian soldier Vadim Shishimarin (pictured middle) to life in prison for killing an unarmed civilian in the first trial Ukraine has held about Moscow's military intervention in its territory, which the government designated as war crimes.
The prosecutors previously stated that the 21-year-old Shishimarin shot the 62-year-old Oleksandr Shelipov in the village of Chupakhivka on February 28. According to them, Shishimarin was told to do so by other servicemen that were in the same vehicle with him.
Shishimarin previously pleaded guilty to the murder.
