South Korea's Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials on Friday filed a request with the Seoul Western District Court to extend the detention of President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was arrested in a massive law enforcement operation at his residence earlier this week and has since refused to testify about the imposition of martial law, according to Yonhap News Agency.
If the court approves the request, investigators could extend Yoon's detention for up to 20 days.
In early December, Yoon declared martial law to "eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the free constitutional order," and lifted it a few hours later, which led to his later impeachment and arrest.
