Sen. Durbin: Too early for Trump impeachment

EPA-EFE / CJ GUNTHER

United States Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin stated that it is too early to initiate impeachment proceedings against US President Donald Trump. A number of Democratic lawmakers, including several presidential candidates, called for the president to be impeached following the release of the Mueller report.

"I think Nancy Pelosi is right. Let’s gather information, evidence, testimony. The House initiates this, and I think that’s the place where it should be started," he said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on Congress to find other ways to learn the facts of Trump's possible obstruction of justice than by impeachment hearings. Various House committees have begun investigations into Trump's conduct and finances, but reports emerged that the White House will fight subpoenas issued for testimonies and documents.
