United States House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (pictured) criticized the Department of Justice for its alleged "growing pattern of obstruction" over the fact it disregarded one of the lawmakers' subpoenas, the Hill reported. Previously, the DoJ informed the committee that one of their officials won't testify on the addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
Cummings said that the executive powers failed to cite any privilege which would prevent said official from appearing before the Congress. The House Oversight Committee is currently probing the White House-proposed measure for the inclusion of a question "Is this person a citizen of the United States?" in the upcoming census.
Various US courts are still deliberating on the issue, as the Supreme Court said it will announce its decision by late June. US President Donald Trump yesterday said he opposes White House aides testifying to Congressional committees controlled by the Democratic Party.
