Senate committee yeses Burns as CIA head

The United States Senate Intelligence Committee approved on Tuesday President Joe Biden's pick William Burns (pictured) as the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Burns now requires the Senate to approve his appointment to be confirmed as the head of the agency.

Burns's nomination was welcomed by Russia, with Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov describing him as a "skillful diplomat" that understood the importance of the dialogue between Washington and Moscow.
