NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declared on Tuesday after a meeting with the European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba that the Alliance is increasing weapons production in an effort to give Ukraine "what it needs to win."
Stoltenberg specified that this would include raising targets for ammunition stockpiles through the NATO defense planning process, giving the industry long-term contracts that would allow them "to invest and produce more." He shared the plans to create a NATO-supported procurement system for Ukraine, adding that the concept will be worked out in a future joint meeting with the European Union and Ukraine.
Finally, the secretary general stated that he "regrets" Russia's decision to abandon the New START treaty, saying that the whole arms structure has been "dismantled" and calling on Moscow to respect existing agreements.
