Tesco PLC announced on Sunday it decided to appoint Gerry Murphy, Burberry Group plc and Tate & Lyle plc chair, as its next chairman, confirming earlier media reports.
Murphy will take on the role from September 1, replacing interim chairman, Byron Grote, who will return to his previous role as senior independent director and chair of the audit committee. Meanwhile, Murphy will step down from his position at Tate & Lyle in September to "ensure he has sufficient capacity to act as Chair of Tesco."
The appointment comes after Tesco's previous chairman, John Allan, left the role amid allegations of inappropriate behavior. The retailer said it made "no findings of wrongdoing" by Allan
