Tesco confirms special dividend payments worth £4.9B

Tesco plc confirmed on Monday that it will pay out £4.9 billion to its shareholders via a special dividend of 50.93 pence per existing ordinary share of the company.

The announcement comes following the completion of Tesco's Thailand and Malaysia businesses sale for the net amount of £7.8 billion. The company stated that besides the shareholder special dividends, it also used the funds from the sale to put £2.5 billion in the Tesco plc pension scheme.

Tesco's board is planning to pay the special dividend to shareholders on the register on February 12 at 6 pm GMT in pounds and to American Depository Receipt (ADR) holders at 5 pm ET in US dollars.
