Tesco PLC announced on Tuesday in a statement that it will be restructuring its management and shutting down remaining counters and hot delis in supermarkets in the United Kingdom from February 26. The move is expected to affect around 2,100 jobs.
The UK retail giant said it is aiming to reduce the number of lead and team managers in big stores in the country, which will impact 1,750 workers, while localized changes, related to the closure of pharmacies and reduction of working hours at certain in-store post offices, will impact around 350 workers.
Nonetheless, Tesco stressed that all those affected will be offered alternative positions. "These are difficult decisions to make, but they are necessary to ensure we remain focused on delivering value for our customers wherever we can," Tesco UK and ROI [Republic of Ireland] CEO Jason Tarry commented.
