United States President Donald Trump said during a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US will "take over the Gaza Strip and do a job with it too."

"We will own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for people of the area," Trump announced. "You just can't go back, if you go back its gonna end up the same way it has for a hundred years," he added. During an earlier chat with reporters, Trump called for a "beautiful area" where Gazans can "resettle permanently."

When asked whether the US would send troops to help "secure a security vacuum" in Gaza, Trump said: "As far as Gaza is concerned, we'll do what is necessary. If it's necessary, we'll do that."
