UK gilt yields fall to multi-month lows

EPA-EFE/ANDY RAIN

The yields on the United Kingdom government bonds, known as gilts, tumbled on Friday, as most of them reached multi-month lows, with the return on the two-year gilt hitting its lowest point since late September 2024.

United States President Donald Trump sent the world into an uproar after he announced his reciprocal tariffs, sparking disappointment in Washington's trading partners. As various countries weighed how to respond, the global economic outlook remained uncertain, with investors seemingly turning to safer investment options, such as bonds.

The return on the 10-year gilt decreased by 9.2 basis points to 4.431% at 9:12 am CET. At the same time, the yield on the two-year gilt and the five-year gilt slid by 9.9 basis points and 10.4 basis points to 3.916% and 3.996%, respectively. The return on the 30-year gilt fell by 8.6 basis points to 5.101% at 9:13 am CET.
