US closes lower with Trump-Putin call in limelight

Major stock indexes in the United States ended Tuesday's session with losses after US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held an eagerly expected phone call. The two leaders agreed to start Ukraine peace talks with "an energy and infrastructure ceasefire" and Putin instructed the military to cease attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure for 30 days. In business, Nvidia unveiled new AI chips and announced a collaboration with General Motors on next-generation vehicles.

The Dow Jones dropped 0.61% or 260 points at the closing bell, with Nvidia tumbling 3.35%. The Nasdaq 100 plunged 1.66% and Applovin Corporation plummeted 9.13%. The S&P 500 dipped 1.06% as Super Micro Computer sank 9.63%.

The euro traded 0.22% higher against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, selling for $1.094467.
