Major US equity markets closed mostly higher on Friday as investors continued to process the latest batch of economic data.
During the day, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said that manufacturing activity rose in August to 47.6%, although still in contraction territory for the tenth consecutive month. Meanwhile, nonfarm payrolls rose 187,000 in the same month, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed.
At the close, the Dow Jones gained 0.34% or 116 points, with Intel rising 4.18%. The Nasdaq 100 fell 0.07%, Warner Bros Discovery was leading the flops, decreasing by 12.02%. The S&P 500 rose 0.18% as Hewlett-Packard advanced by 5.83%.
The euro was down by 0.65% against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET, selling for $1.07735.
