Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev (pictured) warned on Monday that Washington is likely to position strategic forces near the Korean Peninsula, in case Pyongyang conducts the nuclear weapons test.
"In the event of a new test of atomic weapons by the North Koreans, Washington is preparing to deploy strategic forces near the Korean Peninsula, which will lead to further degradation of the situation in the region," Patrushev said during a video between Russian high representatives and ASEAN member states.
Previously, Seoul vowed to support North Korea's growing economy in exchange for Pyongyang's commitment to denuclearization, however, such a request was rejected by the North. United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier voiced his concerns about Pyongyang's readiness to carry out its seventh nuclear test.
