Wall Street opens higher as Fed effect lingers

Major stock exchanges on Wall Street opened higher on Monday, as the positive effects of the Federal Reserve's comments spilled over into the new week. Chair Jerome Powell previously hinted at possible rate cuts in 2024, with the inflation in the United States cooling further. On December 21, traders will be eyeing the country's gross domestic product (GDP) report.

At the opening bell, the Dow Jones gained 0.10%, as Chevron rose 1.39% at 9:31 am ET. At 9:30 am ET, the S&P 500 added 0.21% and the Nasdaq 100 edged up 0.08%. Illumina was the best performer on both indexes, rising by 3.62% at 9:31 am ET.

The euro traded 0.34% above the dollar at 9:29 am ET, going for 1.09301.
