United States President Joe Biden appointed members of a team that will lead the fight against monkeypox on Tuesday.
Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Robert Fenton will act as the White House National Monkeypox Response Coordinator, while Dr. Demetre Daskalakis was named as the White House National Monkeypox Response Deputy Coordinator. Fenton and Daskalakis will "lead the strategy and operations to combat the current monkeypox outbreak," as they will be in charge of testing, vaccinations, and treatments.
The first recorded case in the US was in the state of Massachusetts, while New York, California and Illinois have declared the disease a health emergency.
