FAA investigating Boeing’s manufacturing practices, production lines

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Wednesday that it is currently investigating Boeing Co.'s manufacturing practices and production lines, as well as those of the company's subcontractor Spirit AeroSystems, which made the door plug that blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight earlier this month.

The FAA said all 737-9 Max aircraft with door plugs will remain grounded while it performs its review. "Once the FAA approves an inspection and maintenance process, it will be required on every grounded 737-9 Max prior to future operation. The safety of the flying public, not speed, will determine the timeline for returning these aircraft to service," the agency said.
