No-deal Brexit outcome is a preferred solution to Canada-style deal which would break up Britain, United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May said on Tuesday. She added that the priority in negotiations is to protect the unity of the country.
The opposition's stance on the negotiations is not in national interest, May added. The prime minister also highlighted the need for the European Union to present counter-proposals for the Chequers plan, in order to end the standstill in discussions.
On Monday, UK's Brexit secretary Dominic Raab emphasized that Britain was "ready and prepared" for a no-deal outcome. Earlier in September, it was reported that Michael Barnier, EU's chief negotiator for Brexit, supports the so-called Canada Plus agreement over the Chequers proposal, even though May said earlier that her plan received a "warm and positive response" in Brussels.
