The President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) Meng Hongwei (pictured), who has been missing for a week, is currently under an investigation in his native country China, the South China Morning Post reported on Friday citing a source familiar with the matter. Meng, who served as the Chinese deputy public security minister, was allegedly taken for interrogation as soon as he landed in China a week ago.
Earlier today, it was reported that the French authorities launched an investigation into Meng's disappearance at the request of his wife, with whom the official resides in Lyon, where Interpol is headquartered. Interpol issued a statement saying that the disappearance of the 64-year old Meng is "a matter for the relevant authorities in both France and China."
