Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (pictured) in a press conference claimed the concerns over monkeypox were overblown by the media and politicians, whom he accused of exaggerating the severity of the disease.
"I am so sick of politicians, and we saw this with COVID, trying to sow fear into the population," said the governor. "You see some of these states declaring states of emergency. They're going to abuse those emergency powers to restrict your freedom," he added, calling out the authorities in New York, Illinois and California.
On Tuesday, Florida confirmed the fifth highest number of monkeypox cases in the US.
