Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to criticism from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday, saying it was "totally inappropriate."
"I think what he said is totally inappropriate. It's inappropriate for us to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there. That's something that Israel, the Israeli public, does on its own," Netanyahu told CNN. Besides, he rebutted Schumer's criticism by stressing that it is not only he but the will of Israeli public opinion that supports the government's position vis-à-vis Hamas.
Schumer, who is the highest-ranking Jewish politician in Washington, said last Thursday that "the Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel." The majority leader's opinion was partially echoed by Biden, who described his speech as "good."
