United States Vice President Mike Pence called on the citizens of Venezuela in a video message on Monday to support protests scheduled for tomorrow, which are organized by the head of the country's National Assembly Juan Guaido. Pence called on the Assembly to "assert its constitutional power" and declare the current country's resident Nicolas Maduro " a usurper."
In his short message, which had Spanish subtitles and was partially made in that language, the US vice president called for the establishment of the transitional government and negated the legitimacy of Maduro's leadership.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated on Saturday that the US sees the current regime in Venezuela as "illegitimate" and stated that Washington continues to work on "restoring a real democracy" in the South American country. Media also earlier reported that US President Donald Trump was mulling on recognizing Guaido as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
