Amazon.com Inc. has launched a review into areas of its business that it considers as potentially unprofitable in order to reduce costs, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Thursday.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the outlet quoted the company's President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andy Jassy as the leader of the probe. The field that is likely to be most affected is the retail devices business, which includes Amazon's popular product, Alexa. The WSJ added that a number of employees in the teams deemed unprofitable were told to look for positions in other visions.
The report came after Amazon decided to freeze corporate hiring to cut costs amid the disappointing results it achieved in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2022.
