Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon hailed on Saturday the Scottish National Party's (SNP) "emphatic" victory in the United Kingdom's local elections despite the fact it is unlikely to win an overall majority in the region's parliament (Holyrood).

Sturgeon once again warned British Prime Minister Boris Johnson not to block Scotland's attempts to hold the second independence referendum, saying it is "not a decision for Boris Johnson or any Westminster politician." "You will not succeed, the only people who can decide the future of Scotland are the Scottish people," she stressed.

Earlier in the day, the Labour Party reached its best-ever result in the runup to the Welsh Parliament, winning 30 out of 60 seats in the (Senedd).
