British Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng remarked on Sunday that the United Kingdom has the right to consider changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol from the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and is "absolutely" prepared to trigger Article 16.
Speaking to Sky News, Kwarteng said that "political stability is our number one priority and if people say there will be no power sharing until it is changed, then we will do that. [...] We have to be prepared to invoke article 16."
Earlier this week, the European Union asserted the protocol is an integral part of the Brexit agreement and therefore cannot be changed. Meanwhile, the UK kept on insisting certain modifications have to be made.
