Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk arrived in Cairo for discussions on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Axios reporter Barak Ravid, citing Israeli and US sources, reported that their visit was also aimed at securing the Egypt-Gaza border and preventing weapon smuggling across it.
The purpose of their visit is to advocate for a hostage and ceasefire agreement in Gaza amid the "progress" the new proposal has made among Hamas representatives.
Earlier, the same outlet announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had greenlighted sending a delegation from the country for individual talks on the hostage deal despite "gaps" between the negotiating parties.
