Major stock indexes in the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly higher on Wednesday as investors assessed United States President Donald Trump's 25% steel and aluminum tariffs. Investors also digested Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yoji Muto's request for his country to be exempt from the tariffs.
Furthermore, Wall Street traded mixed at the closing bell on Tuesday as investors digested Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's testimony before the Banking Committee.
Japan's Nikkei 225 grew by 0.29% at 2:52 am CET, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped by 1.15% at 02:53 am CET and South Korea's Kospi added 0.23%. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Composite traded flat at 2:54 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.23% at 2:55 am CET.
The dollar traded 0.59% higher against the yen at 2:56 am CET, selling for 153.46300.
