United States President Joe Biden emphasized on Friday that reopening the Port of Baltimore is a "top priority," as it plays a critical role in supporting 20,000 jobs.
"First, our priority is to reopen the port, this is one of the nation's largest shipping hubs. It's the top port in America both for exporting and importing cars and light trucks ... We will remove the steel from the water as quickly as possible and safely as possible," Biden pointed out during a speech in Baltimore. He added that "by the end of May," there will be a full channel opened to allow commercial traffic.
The head of the White House also pointed out that companies such as Amazon, Home Depot and Domino's Sugar have pledged not to lay off local workers following the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
