Former United States President Donald Trump appointed ex-Assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Todd Blanche as his lead counsel in the case that last week resulted in an indictment against Trump, Politico reported.

The media outlet has allegedly had access to Blanche's resignation email in which he explained that he would leave Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP law firm where he was a partner to join Trump's defense team.

In other cases, Blanche had previously represented Paul Manafort, one of Trump's 2016 campaign chairmen, as well as Rudy Giuliani's associate Igor Fruman.
