South Korea's acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho (pictured) said the defense ministry and the military would not execute orders to impose martial law should they be issued again, three days after President Yoon Suk-yeol introduced a state of emergency only to lift it six hours later.

"Rumors that circulated this morning on signs of another martial law declaration are not true. Even if there is an order for martial law issuance, the defense ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff will never accept it," Kim stated. Earlier, both the leader of the ruling party and the leader of the opposition called for the suspension of Yoon's presidential powers over his "unconstitutional" acts and attempts to detain key political figures while martial law was in place.

On Thursday, Yoon accepted the resignation of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun who was said to be involved in the decision to impose martial law.
