South Korean National Intelligence Service on Thursday stated that the reconnaissance satellite launched by North Korea is believed to have entered orbit, Yonhap reported.
Following the closed-door meeting, the intelligence agency stated that Russia is believed to have played a role in supporting North Korea's satellite launch. The state-run news agency Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) first reported that the military spy satellite Malligyong-1 successfully entered its orbit on its third launch attempt, but no neighboring countries could confirm this claim.
In response to the satellite's launch, South Korea suspended portions of the inter-Korean military accord designed back in 2018 to reduce tensions on the peninsula, which appeared to force Pyongyang to announce the strengthening of its positions along the Military Demarcation Line.
