Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney expressed on Tuesday his concern that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson might take immediate action on the Northern Ireland protocol to save his position.
Coveney worries that Johnson could override the parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol to unite the Conservative party, as yesterdaý's vote of confidence suggests that there are major divisions within its members. He added that Ireland will collaborate with any British Prime Minister, as long as the Northern Ireland protocol is not used as a method to gain support.
Johnson won the confidence vote among the Conservative Members of the Parliament held on Monday, and the British Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said last month that the United Kingdom has the right to implement changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol.
