Wall Street closes higher after data, earnings

Stock exchanges in the United States closed higher on Wednesday after a new batch of economic data and corporate earnings. Investors analyzed the latest figures when it comes to mortgage applications, retail sales, industrial production, business inventories, and home builder confidence, as well as corporate earnings reports by Biogen and Kraft Heinz.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was up 0.11% at the close with Caterpillar, its best performer, rising 1.78%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced by 0.77% as Airbnb jumped 13.35% at the end of the trading session. The S&P 500 closed 0.28% higher. Paramount Global pulled up the index after soaring 9.31%.

The euro was down 0.46% compared to the dollar to change hands for 1.06888 at 3:59 pm ET.
