United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has stepped down from his post, Downing Street announced on Monday. "This afternoon, the prime minister accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson as foreign secretary. His replacement will be announced shortly. The prime minister thanks Boris for his work," the statement released by Prime Minister Theresa May's office read.
Johnson, who led the Leave campaign prior to the Brexit referendum, decided to step down as a result of his disagreement with May over her soft-Brexit strategy revealed at the government's Chequers meeting on Friday.
Earlier, Brexit Secretary David Davis and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union Steve Baker also quit, refusing to support the prime minister's Brexit policy. Dominic Raab has been named as the country's new Brexit secretary.
